Crab Boil This Friday

Wednesday, January 7th, 2004

Paula and I are having a crab boil at our house this Friday at 6pm.

If you’re planning to join us, email or call and let us know so that we can buy the right amount of food.

It is really important that you let us know if you’re coming. We’re only buying crabs for those who respond.

Welcome Back!

Monday, January 5th, 2004

Welcome back to school! Tomorrow night (Tuesday Jan 6th) we’re kicking things off at 8pm in 300-300.

Come join us as we discuss The Overload Syndrome, that pesky tendency most of us have to stretch ourselves to the breaking point.

How To Be Thank-Full

Monday, November 24th, 2003

This Tuesday at 8pm in 300-300, we’ll be talking about How To Be Thank-Full.

Some people complain that God put thorns on roses, while others praise Him for putting roses on thorns…

Which kind of a person are you? Are you someone to whom gratitude comes naturally?

You see, gratitude is the antidote to so many maladies that I can barely begin to list them: selfishness, pride, rage, greed, envy, lust, etc. They’re all trumped by the power of a grateful heart.

If you’d like to learn how to be more thankful, then join us this Tuesday!

Come With Me To Change The World

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

Chi Alpha is sponsoring a missions summit up in Portland, Oregon from Nov 14-16.

If you have any level of desire to touch the world with the gospel, this event is for you!

You can learn more at the West Coast Missions Summit page.

The early-bird registration deadline is this Friday (Halloween).

Tonight: Guilt, Shame, and Forgiveness

Tuesday, October 14th, 2003

Tonight at Chi Alpha Paula Davis will be speaking about one of the most famous stories in all of the Bible: the story of the woman caught committing adultery.

This is a story we can all relate to, with its themes of guilt, shame, and forgiveness.

FYI: this message is in our continuing series of teachings examining the questions that Jesus asked people 2,000 years ago and still asks each of us today. Tonight we’ll focus in on the question he asked at the end of the story: “Where Are Your Accusers?”

As always, we’re in 300-300 at 8pm.

Bible Studies

Wednesday, October 8th, 2003

Would you like to develop meaningful friendships?
Would you like to have candid discussions about God?
Would you like to learn more about the Bible?

Then we have a deal for you! Chi Alpha sponsors weekly Bible discussion groups (also known as small groups, cell groups, Bible studies, and fellowship groups: it’s not what’s on the label but what’s in the bottle that counts).

Our small group Bible studies are weekly gatherings of students who meet to discuss the Bible and its ramifications. Whether you’re a die-hard skeptic or a dyed-in-the-wool fundamentalist or anything in-between (which is more likely), you’ll feel at home!

This quarter we’re offering 2 Bible studies:

If you’d like more info on any of those, call 650-380-0897 or email chialpha@stanford.edu.

Church Tour: Family Community Church

Friday, October 3rd, 2003

For the first month of school Chi Alpha is sponsoring a church tour. This week we’ll be visiting Family Community Church in San Jose. It’s a cool church. In fact, it was named the best church in Silicon Valley by the San Jose Mercury News! I’m not sure what a newspaper knows about churches, but that’s still a pretty cool fact.

FCC is a young, energetic, and practical church that I think you’ll really resonate with. Special bonus: this church has both Saturday evening and Sunday morning services. If you find yourself sleeping in on Sunday mornings (and missing church as a result), this just might be the solution you’ve been looking for!

Our rendezvous times will be 4:00pm Saturday and 10:15am Sunday at the Tresidder bus stop.

If you want to come along please email or call us and let us know (our info is on the page at the bottom).

Oh yeah–dress for church is casual.

Experience Passion Worship Tour

Tuesday, September 30th, 2003

We’re taking a group up to the Experience Passion Worship Tour in Sacramento this Thursday.

Chris Tomlin, the Dave Crowder Band, and Louie Giglio are going to be presenting Passion’s core message of God’s glory.

If you’d like to come along, email us and let us know!

Tickets are $23 apiece and you’ll need to get your own. You can either pay at the door or get them online in advance.

We’ll meet at the Tresidder Bollards (those short funky pillars next to the bus stop in front of Tresidder) at 3:50pm and drive up to Sacramento together. The ride will be about 2.5 hours and the event starts at 7:00pm.

By the way, you may have noticed the new RSS Feeds item on the menu bar above. If you use an RSS aggregator we offer both RSS 2.0 and 0.91 feeds. If you don’t know what RSS is, check out Lockergnome’s RSS Quick Start guide. Just another way we try to make your life a little easier…
