Tonight: Guilt, Shame, and Forgiveness

Tuesday, October 14th, 2003

Tonight at Chi Alpha Paula Davis will be speaking about one of the most famous stories in all of the Bible: the story of the woman caught committing adultery.

This is a story we can all relate to, with its themes of guilt, shame, and forgiveness.

FYI: this message is in our continuing series of teachings examining the questions that Jesus asked people 2,000 years ago and still asks each of us today. Tonight we’ll focus in on the question he asked at the end of the story: “Where Are Your Accusers?”

As always, we’re in 300–300 at 8pm.

Bible Studies

Wednesday, October 8th, 2003

Would you like to develop meaningful friendships?
Would you like to have candid discussions about God?
Would you like to learn more about the Bible?

Then we have a deal for you! Chi Alpha sponsors weekly Bible discussion groups (also known as small groups, cell groups, Bible studies, and fellowship groups: it’s not what’s on the label but what’s in the bottle that counts).

Our small group Bible studies are weekly gatherings of students who meet to discuss the Bible and its ramifications. Whether you’re a die-hard skeptic or a dyed-in-the-wool fundamentalist or anything in-between (which is more likely), you’ll feel at home!

This quarter we’re offering 2 Bible studies:

If you’d like more info on any of those, call 650–380-0897 or email chialpha@stanford.edu.

Church Tour: Family Community Church

Friday, October 3rd, 2003

For the first month of school Chi Alpha is sponsoring a church tour. This week we’ll be visiting Family Community Church in San Jose. It’s a cool church. In fact, it was named the best church in Silicon Valley by the San Jose Mercury News! I’m not sure what a newspaper knows about churches, but that’s still a pretty cool fact.

FCC is a young, energetic, and practical church that I think you’ll really resonate with. Special bonus: this church has both Saturday evening and Sunday morning services. If you find yourself sleeping in on Sunday mornings (and missing church as a result), this just might be the solution you’ve been looking for!

Our rendezvous times will be 4:00pm Saturday and 10:15am Sunday at the Tresidder bus stop.

If you want to come along please email or call us and let us know (our info is on the page at the bottom).

Oh yeah–dress for church is casual.
